Primary Role(s):
Coordinate and manage the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program, including oversight of course delivery, clinical experiences, and compliance with all regulatory and accrediting requirements. Responsible for program operations, scheduling, and student success initiatives across the college district. Provide supervision of adjunct CNA instructors and student workers, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, performance oversight, and ensuring instructional quality and compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and college standards.
Organization Relationship:
Reports to the Dean of Health Sciences who reports to the Provost & Vice President of Instructional Services, who reports to the President of the College.
Qualifications:Required
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Current Illinois registered nursing license.
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a professional registered nurse.
- Current American Heart Association BLS Instructor certification.
- Experience with Illinois Department of Public Health Certified Nurse Assistant Training Program requirements.
- Knowledge of teaching and learning methodologies with commitment to student-centered learning and effective use of instructional technology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, planning, and presentation skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Commitment to the community college mission, philosophy, and core values.
- Valid Illinois driver's license.
Preferred
- Experience coordinating courses or instructional programs.
- Experience supervising others.
- Familiarity with learning management systems.
- Experience in CNA instruction, healthcare training, or community college teaching.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinate CNA class offerings, clinical laboratory, and clinical agency schedules each semester to meet district student needs and mandated clinical learning hour requirements; ensure consistency in instructional delivery, program compliance, and student success outcomes.
- Perform instructional duties as assigned for CNA courses, teaching up to 12 weekly contact hours per semester and no more than 29 weekly contact hours per academic year.
- Prepare, update, and approve syllabi for all program courses in coordination with instructors; ensure curriculum adheres to IDPH requirements and industry standards.
- Submit all IDPH required paperwork regarding CNA course schedules and other required documentation as directed.
- In collaboration with the Dean of Health Sciences, recruit, interview, recommend, onboard, schedule, supervise, and evaluate adjunct CNA instructors; provide regular communication to all CNA instructors both college-employed and dual credit regarding curriculum updates, instructional expectations, IDPH processes, program policies, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly learning environment; monitor supplies and equipment, recommending and procuring textbooks and materials necessary for program success.
- Advise, counsel, and mentor students to support academic success and progression; ensure timely communication and access for students and college employees.
- Perform student learning assessments; actively participate in departmental program review, college-wide assessment initiatives, and the program advisory committee in collaboration with the Dean of Health Sciences.
- Maintain current knowledge of emerging trends, technologies, instructional practices, and relevant accreditation and regulatory standards within the discipline.
- Provide annual recommendations to the Dean of Health Sciences regarding student handbooks, policies and procedures, program budget, and course fees; regularly monitor program budget throughout the year.
- Complete dual credit visits for CNA, Medical Terminology, and Health Occupation courses.
- Assist in developing alternative educational options including short-term certificates, competency-based education, and workforce training opportunities.
- Collaborate with community groups, school districts, and business and industry partners to develop partnerships and growth opportunities and ensure program alignment with workforce needs.
- In accordance with the Perkins State Plan, maintain team-based challenges and/or a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO), as applicable.
- Promote an educational environment that recognizes and values diversity, equity, and inclusion as integral components of academic excellence.
- Report absences from assigned responsibilities promptly to the Dean of Health Sciences; prepare reports as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Responsible for supervision of adjunct CNA instructors and student workers providing service within the Nurse Assistant program.
Supervisory Controls:
Employee is required to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Consultation as necessary is available with the Dean of Health Sciences.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Duties will be performed in an academic environment consistent with the program of study and needs of the student. Environment may be prone to frequent distractions and interruptions. Travel within the college district, as well as occasional overnight travel, is required as necessary to perform the duties of the position.
